COVID 19 LATEST INFORMATION

***UPDATED 05/11/2020***

PENNIWELLS RIDING CENTRE IS CLOSED ONCE AGAIN FROM 05/11/2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID 19

The timetable is very different as we try to phase back as many of you as we can to do something within the centre – It may be feeling like a  slow process but so far its is working well. Please be patient with us!

IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE HAVING A POSITIVE TEST RESULT OR SHOWING SYMPTOMS PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE CENTRE

LIKEWISE IF YOU HAVE A CHILD WHO HAS BEEN TOLD TO ISOLATE FROM SCHOOL PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE CENTRE

We will do our best to keep you updated on any changes or news on his page

Information is also being shared widely via social media and regular emails will be sent to you also

17/10/2020 I am pleased to say we are now riding 23 independent riders. 15 are taking up Sessions on the simulator over the next couple of weeks and every other rider has been given the opportunity to take part in either a visit or horse care with the ponies.  We are keen to remain engaged with everyone the best we can.  Strict 2m social distancing remains in place with plenty of hand sanitisers having been placed around the centre. Please continue to help us keep everyone safe by sticking to our new rules and routines.

There are now 4 members if staff:

Sarah Healing Centre Manager

Lauren Beswick Coach/Groom

Lucy Stephens Coach \Groom

Tiggy Harris Groom/Trainee Coach and Recently qualified Vet Physio

I hope you have all been receiving our regular updates via email – If not please do send me an email to get back in touch with us. penniwellsrda@outlook.com

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who is continuing to support the centre at the difficult time – we really can’t do it without you all! Thank you  😊

22/06/2020   We are pleased to say we have now ridden 4 riders who have enjoyed piloting sessions back with us – It is difficult under the current guidelines of social distancing etc but the team have worked hard to get the centre ready and make these few riders feel welcome.

We thank all of you for your patience at this time as it is going to be a slow process phasing both rider and volunteers back into regular slots.

16/06/2020 RIDER UPDATES:  All of us at Penniwells RDA hope you are keeping fit and well during this time. We have been working hard at the centre to make sure it is a safe environment for you to come back into when we are able to restart sessions again.

I am pleased to say we are nearly ready to invite 4 riders as a trial session to see if we can make it work – Social Distancing of 2m will still be required and so these 4 will be those who can ride independently and work within the new rules.

Once we have worked with the first 4 riders it is hoped it can be expanded to more of those who can ride off lead rein safely without the need for a leader at any time – This does include mounting and dismounting etc as well. The ability to check the girth and change stirrups will also be required – we may well need to spend the whole of your first session teaching you how to do this if it means you are then able to come back and ride with us safely!

For those of you who do require a leader and or side helpers at this time we are unable to accommodate you due to the need for close support. We are looking into ways of making this happen and I am sure many parents/ carers will be willing to help if this means you can come riding again – Again we are looking at ways of being able to train you sufficiently to make it safe for all concerned.

With July looming upon us quickly we would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who are able to continue donating your fees to the centre even though we may not be able to see you riding in the very near future. Without your support so far Penniwells would be looking at a very bleak future and possibly would already be having to downsize to make ends meet. You, The riders, are our only source of income – we already had to raise over £100k a year on top of your fees to keep the centre running and subsidising your riding fees so I can only emphasise how hard things have become for us. Lets hope, with your support, Penniwells will be here for another 40 years – This should have been a big year for us with lots planned for you to become involved with while celebrating our 40th Anniversary – Hopefully we can all come together next year for a late celebration of the work we have done over the years.

I have attached a You Tube link https://youtu.be/RsLD6znApKg to a short video we have made for you – It is showing you how it will be for those first few riders returning to us – Social Distancing must be maintained and there have been many changes – We thought it would be a good visual tool to show how different things are going to be – The main building or indoor arena will not be accessible, nor the hydraulic mounting. We are a resilient bunch and are determined to find new ways to make the magic of Penniwells continue – Please be patient with us as we phase you back slowly – We know how much you want to be here – riders and volunteers alike but it is going to take time.

Be assured you will be contacted as and when we feel you will be able to return to us with any government and equestrian body guidelines in place. Remember it is also our volunteers who have to agree to be here of which none have yet been phased back.

When we are ready to think about your return as a rider you will receive a consent form request from us via email – We are only sending these as and when we are ready for each individual to return so don’t think you have been missed out if you know someone who has already received one. You will not be able to return unless this form is signed and returned to us.

If you do have any questions please email or give us a ring at the Centre 0208 207 4525.

We are really looking forward to seeing some of you again soon and really hope we can make this work for as many of you as is possible.

Best wishes

16/06/2020 LATEST VOLUNTEER UPDATE

HI Everyone,

All of us at Penniwells RDA hope you are keeping fit and well during this time. We have been working hard at the centre to make sure it is a safe environment for you to come back into when we are able to restart sessions again.

Be assured you will be contacted as and when we feel you will be able to return to us with any government and equestrian body guidelines in place. We value each and every one of you as volunteers and look forward to seeing you back at some point in the future.

When we are ready to think about your return as a volunteer you will have received a consent form request from us via email – You will not be able to return unless this form is signed and returned to us so please send it back if you have not already done so.

If you do have any questions please email or give us a ring at the Centre 0208 207 4525.

We are really looking forward to seeing some of you again soon and really hope we can make this work for as many of you as is possible. You will be pleased to hear we are making plans for some you as volunteers to come in and do specific jobs if you would like to – I have to warn you though that any pony time is going to be very limited and it will be to help us with the more mundane jobs like poo picking and ragwort pulling, cleaning and general maintenance. Some of you may soon receive an email from us asking if you would be willing to help in this area so please let us know if you would like to be considered.

Best wishes

Response to government announcement 11th May 2020

Sunday’s announcement by Boris Johnson has given some indication of a move towards ending lockdown, however it has not brought in any new measures that could have an impact on RDA’s ability to restart most activities. In addition, devolved governments are clearly maintaining the lockdown stance for the immediate future. Our advice, therefore, is that groups should remain closed at least for the next three weeks, with some very specific exceptions, as below. As always, as and when new information or guidance is issued, we will update our position accordingly.
We are aware that some equestrian organisations are taking steps to restart activity in England and we have discussed and explained our position with them. RDA is in a different situation, as so many of our activities require close contact between riders or drivers and volunteers and therefore maintaining social distancing is not usually possible. This is exacerbated by the fact that many participants and volunteers are in vulnerable categories.

Our priority is the safety of participants, volunteers and staff; in most cases, we judge this to be at risk and therefore advise no resumption of activity.
